While it's unlikely he'll drop to the 5th spot in the upcoming draft, several, including Craig Button, would like the GM to make a trade to try to move up a few spots in the draft with the aim of selecting him.
Kent Hughes openly admitted during his assessment, he wants to add offense to his lineup. The young Russian prospect would be the perfect addition to the GM's equation, and the TSN journalist would see no objection to trying it if the price was reasonable.
It is important to note that the situation with Demidov is completely different from that with Matvei Michkov. Demidov is much less controversial than the current Philadelphia Flyers prospect and has a much better reputation. He also appears to have a much better team spirit and could be as talented, if not more, than his Russian compatriot.
In recent days, Demidov's agent, Dan Milstein, confirmed the CH's interest in his client. He even mentioned, to Anthony Martineau of TVA Sports, that the organization had contacted him over the past few months.
Demidov has scored 23 goals and 37 assists (60 points) in just 30 games in the KHL. The forward also does not have a contract obligating him to stay in the KHL. He could arrive as early as next season and there are no real red flags in his case.
It will be interesting to see if the CH, or any other NHL team, moves to acquire him...
