SCOOP: the Canadiens really want to acquire Beckett Sennecke
With less than two months before the 2024 NHL draft, we have just learned a very interesting scoop about the plans of Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
Thanks to the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin.
According to his sources, the leaders of the Montreal Canadiens have fallen in love with one of the prospects who are expected to be picked in the first round next June, and according to his sources, the CH's first-round pick (top-7 overall) is becoming clear.
See his full message:
"I had some very interesting discussions this morning with someone close to the matter regarding the upcoming draft for the Canadiens. The main points.
- They are looking to add weight at all costs with the top 5-7 pick. No "small player" unless Ivan Demidov is available, with the talent he has, they would probably make an exception. But Berkly Catton does not seem to be a viable option for them (as of today). And it would be very surprising if they draft a defenseman unless the context really calls for it.
- The Canadiens are really in love with Beckett Sennecke. To the point where he would be one of the candidates with their first-round pick. That said, I don't think they would select him ahead of Cayden Lindstrom or Ivan Demidov. By the way, I know McCagg has already talked about Sennecke but I don't know exactly what he said and if he directly linked him to the CH. But I can confirm that they see him in their plans.
That's all for now. It's not much but that's it!
- Marc-Olivier Beaudoin That's really interesting!
Sennecke, 18 years old, is a 6 foot 2 inches and 175 pounds winger who amassed 68 points in 63 games this season in the OHL with the Oshawa Generals.
Last season, he had collected 55 points in 61 games.
Currently, according to the consensus, the young Sennecke is ranked as being a 15th to 25th overall pick, depending on the lists.
Could Kent Hughes then try to move up the Winnipeg Jets' 2024 first-round pick to get Sennecke? To be continued, but the CH really seems to want him.
I dare hope they won't draft him with the 5th or 7th overall pick, but at the same time, I have confidence in the Habs leaders. So far, they haven't been too wrong.
