With this pick, many Habs fans hope that Kent Hughes will grab a forward, and as reported by the site Danslescoulisses.com, there will be no shortage of choices to select a talented player, and five players in particular will be ones to watch over the next few weeks.
1 - Cayden Lindstrom
Unsurprisingly, he might be the one many experts see arriving in Montreal via this fifth pick. The big center at 6 feet 3 inches and 210 pounds would bring reinforcement, not only on offense, but also physically, and some scouts compare him to Quinton Byfield, who just had his breakout year with the Los Angeles Kings.
2 - Ivan Demidov
One can always hope that the Blackhawks, Ducks, and Blue Jackets pass up on this talented Russian right winger who just had a big year in Russia, having totaled 60 points in 30 games in the Russian junior league. However, despite being the most beautiful talent in the draft after Macklin Celebrini, it would be surprising if he were still available at the fifth pick.
Moreover, for journalist Marc-Antoine Godin, it would be a true gift from heaven if Demidov was still available at the fifth rank.
3 - Tij Iginla
His name has been circulating a lot in recent weeks, and he just had a big 2023-24 season with 47 goals in 64 games with the Kelowna Rockets in the Western junior league. Beyond his undeniable scoring talent, the son of Jarome is also considered a complete player, who would be a significant asset for the future of the Canadiens.
4 - Berkly Catton
Despite his season of 116 points in 68 games in the WHL, Catton is neither the tallest nor the biggest at only 5 feet 11 inches and 163 pounds, but he would undoubtedly be an excellent option for Kent Hughes if the three young prospects mentioned earlier were no longer available.
5 - Beckett Sennecke
Finally, his name has gained popularity over the last few weeks and he is having excellent playoffs with 22 points in 16 games with the Oshawa Generals, and unlike Lindstrom, Iginla, and Catton, he comes from the Ontario junior league, a league which is considered more challenging to play in, according to many scouts.
That said, Kent Hughes and his team will still have time to evaluate these young prospects and we will see if one of the five players mentioned in the article will don the tricolor jersey on the stage in Las Vegas, on June 28th next.
