We have an update regarding Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine. The organization has unfortunately confirmed that the Finnish player is indeed injured and may not return to the game.

Earlier in the game, we reported that Laine left after taking a hit and did not return. Now, the Canadiens organization has released a statement.

See the official statement here:

It has been identified as an upper-body injury, which is somewhat reassuring considering it is not related to his knee, but we'll have to wait and see.

The Canadiens announce that Patrik Laine's return to play remains uncertain for tonight. Upper-body injury. Stay tuned..

David Calabretta (The Fourth Period) just added this:

« I wouldn't be surprised if the Habs shut Laine down for the rest of the game based on how Columbus is playing.»

Video of where Laine might have gotten injured:

Rest assured, we will keep you updated minute by minute as soon as we have news about Laine.

Laine, 26 years old, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 208 pounds, has accumulated 9 points in 9 games this season, including 8 goals.

He has notably been a key contributor to the Canadiens' power play and has quickly become an important player for Martin St-Louis.

Losing him again would be really tough for the Canadiens and their fans to handle.

UPDATE

It's now official, Laine will not return to the game tonight, his night is over.
