The Montreal Canadiens have just announced that defenseman David Reinbacher underwent surgery on his left knee this morning.

This is yet another terrible setback for the young player's development, as he will lose an entire year, and it's obviously very bad for the future of the Habs.

Long-term absence for David Reinbacher

See the official announcement from the Montreal Canadiens.

We are talking about a minimum absence of five to six months for Reinbacher. It's not necessarily surprising, and it aligns with the rumors that had been circulating in the past few hours, but it's still really sad.

«A real blow to his development, but there's still hope to see him return before the end of the season.»

- Arpon Basu

I doubt it, but mathematically and theoretically, it's not entirely impossible indeed.

According to information that circulated last night, the injury sustained by Patrik Laine is said to be worse than the one suffered by David Reinbacher, so let's say we are keeping our expectations very low for the next medical update from the Habs.

At 19 years old, Reinbacher is a right-handed defenseman standing 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 209 pounds. He was the fifth overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2023 (1st round), selected two spots ahead of a certain Matvei Michkov.

Last season with the Laval Rocket, Reinbacher tallied 5 points in 11 games (+6 rating), after a tough season in Kloten.

We wish the young player the best of luck! It must be very hard for him to accept right now, and it's truly unfortunate.

More details to follow.
