In the last few seconds, following the "Wes McCauley and Sheldon Keefe controversy", the National Hockey League has just made an announcement.
"Referees Eric Furlatt and Trevor Hanson get the call for game 2 of Leafs vs. Lightning tonight," said Chris Johnston.
Let's recall that after game one, many Leafs fans cried foul and claimed that Toronto lost the game because of Wes McCauley.
Why? Let's review the story :
McCauley is known to not be on good terms with Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe, mainly because a few years ago, Keefe testified at a hearing against McCauley's brother-in-law, who is very close to him. The hearing had very serious accusations.
Keefe has also been fined before, a few years ago, for yelling at a referee. That referee was, you guessed it, Wes McCauley.
Some also added that the Lightning did not lose a single game with McCauley on the ice this season, which is a funny coincidence.
In short, McCauley is replaced and will not be the referee tonight, which makes the Toronto Maple Leafs fans very happy.
Let's see what happens next. It promises to be an interesting night!
More details to follow.
