It is very rare to see this in an NHL playoff game, but there was so much rough play yesterday towards the end of the game between the Panthers and Bruins, that the referees ended the game prematurely.
There were only three seconds left, but still! It had been decades since it had happened in the playoffs, and the significance of such a decision says a lot about the atmosphere on the ice.
The rules require referees to play every second of a game, except in cases of force majeure or safety issues.
They used this reason to end the game before the end.
"Incredible, the Boston officials just said "F-it" and didn't play the last 3 seconds of the game. I'm not sure I've ever seen that before," said David Alter.
"It's the first time, as far as I can remember, that a game ended before the end. (There were only 3 seconds left, but still). Game 3 of Boston-Florida is going to be crazy," said Trey Lower.
They erased the last three seconds of the game because Boston was clearly determined to destroy everything on their path, and Florida players could have been injured.
