Over the past two seasons, it has become increasingly clear that Brendan Gallagher's best days are firmly in the rearview mirror.

He's scored only 15 goals in 93 games and has frequently found himself on the injury list. However, Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is hamstrung with Gallagher due to the generous six-year, $39 million contract granted to him by Marc Bergevin in 2020.

Therefore, it will be very challenging for the Canadiens' GM to trade his veteran right winger, unless a team is willing to pick up his contract to meet the salary floor and, as reported by Marqueur.com, this scenario may not be entirely out of the question.

Hockey Night in Montreal's Twitter account has suggested a trade proposal involving Gallagher with none other than the go-to team for absorbing hefty contracts the Arizona Coyotes.

Here's the proposed deal:

To Arizona

-Brendan Gallagher
-Third round pick

To Montreal

-Future considerations

The proposal was even put to a vote, and surprisingly, nearly 50% of respondents are in favor of such a trade, which eerily resembles the deal Hughes completed last summer to bring Sean Monahan to Montreal.

However, it seems unlikely that Gallagher would be shipped to Arizona given he has a no-trade clause in his contract, and to be honest, I'm not convinced he would agree to join the struggling Coyotes.

Even though he has significantly slowed down over the past two years, we genuinely believe that the number 11 still plays an important role in the organization. He brings a lot of leadership to the Canadiens, and it's likely that Gallagher is part of the team's short-term plans.
