According to him, he believes that Kent Hughes could trade number 91 at the trade deadline, before repatriating him to Montreal via the free agent market next summer.
As we know, he is very happy in Montreal and we should not dismiss this possibility, as the Canadiens organization would undoubtedly like to have a solid veteran when the team is more competitive in the coming years.
However, this strategy can still be risky and there is no guarantee that Monahan will return to Montreal in 2024-2025, but the idea is very interesting.
If he were to agree to the terms of a long-term contract with the Canadiens, it is likely that he would receive a considerable salary increase, as he is currently earning only $1.95 million this year.
