According to reporter Elliotte Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks' forward is not expected to receive a new contract from the California organization and will therefore become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Since his arrival in the NHL, the Quebec athlete has had an up-and-down career and despite all the chances he has had to prove himself with the Ducks, he has not managed to establish himself as a top 6 forward in Anaheim.
Could the Canadiens be interested in the services of Maxime Comtois?
Obviously, when a player from Quebec is available, they are immediately associated with the Canadiens. However, with the signing of Sean Monahan and the arrival of Alex Newhook, there is starting to be some congestion in the attack and I wonder which seat Comtois could occupy within the organization.
We must not forget that Newhook will have to sign a new contract and there is always the possibility of seeing a certain Denis Gurianov return next year, who finds himself in the same situation as the Ducks' forward.
This means that the chances are very slim of seeing Maxime Comtois wear the tricolor uniform, but with a certain Kent Hughes, we are never safe from a surprise.
In the same vein, also note that Quebecer Julien Gauthier, another former first-round pick, will also be a free agent.
