It's one of the first major transactions finalized by General Manager Kent Hughes with the Montreal Canadiens, and it's still being analyzed today.

Let's recall, of course, that at the 2022 trade deadline, the Canadiens made a significant trade with the Colorado Avalanche.

Finnish forward Artturi Lehkonen was sent to Colorado, while young promising defenseman Justin Barron made the reverse trip and became a Canadiens player. (plus a second-round pick)

Immediately after the trade, at the time, a certain Sidney Crosby made a very interesting statement.

This was reported by Kris Letang via Renaud Lavoie.

«Sidney Crosby has known so many talented players that he recognizes them when he sees them. In his eyes, Justin Barron clearly belongs to this category. Crosby also believes that the Colorado Avalanche made a mistake in trading the promising defenseman to the Montreal Canadiens.»

«Upon hearing about the trade, Crosby said, 'I would never have done that if I were the Avalanche. That kid, he's a real hockey player. He's ready to play in the NHL and he's going to become a good player.'»

Clearly, with his recent performances, Barron is proving Crosby right more and more.

In his last two games, Barron has been a cornerstone for Martin St-Louis.

In addition to scoring two big goals, he generated numerous scoring chances, maintained a positive differential, and reached the 21-minute mark played in a game. (worthy of a top-4 defenseman)

To be continued, but he's clearly headed in the right direction, this JB!
