In return, the Habs obtained Denis Gurianov, another enigmatic Russian forward, and retained 50% of Dadonov's salary on their cap.
After having a good start in the Habs uniform, Gurianov slowly returned to his old habits, and he was rarely seen in the last few games of the regular season.
Moreover, there seems to be less and less chance that Gurianov will receive a qualifying offer from the Habs, as he will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Meanwhile, Dadonov is experiencing a real resurgence in Dallas. The 33-year-old Russian has already scored three goals in just four playoff games, with the Stars currently tied 2-2 with the Minnesota Wild in their first round matchup.
The former number 63 for the Canadiens also had 15 points, including three goals, in 23 games at the end of the season with the Stars.
Being on a competitive team aiming for the big prize is probably a big factor in Dadonov's performance, but the question remains.
Did the Montreal Canadiens get robbed in this trade? Some believe so, but we're not necessarily of that opinion.
