As Marc-Olivier Cook mentioned in a recent column on the website DLC, there are two schools of thought in this matter. Some want Allen, as a veteran, to stay and support Monty, while others believe the veteran hinders Primeau's progress.
According to the esteemed Elliotte Friedman, Jake Allen should be the one to leave. He even asserts that Kent Hughes should act sooner rather than later.
Friedman suggests that Hughes should be willing to accept less than expected for his goalie to end the three-goalie situation as quickly as possible. The hockey insider also states that it's easy to find goalies like Jake Allen.
The return could therefore be «cheap», or even disappointing.
The CH might, as early as this summer, acquire a goalie of this type if they see that the experiment with Cayden Primeau is not working. Primeau will have more opportunities to take the net and show what he can really do in the NHL.
However, the option to trade Samuel Montembeault is still on the table. With his contract in hand, and no trade clause in his agreement, the Quebecois therefore increases his market value. Kent Hughes might be tempted to take advantage of the situation.
This will be a matter to closely follow over the next few days...
