While many like and admire the American's talent, others do not share this opinion. They do not like his flamboyant style and attitude, which can seem quite cocky. Furthermore, his reputation seems to be poor not only among fans and analysts but also among other NHL players.
As shown in the most recent edition of The Athletic's annual NHL player poll, Zegras is considered the league's most overrated player. The 101 players who participated in this poll placed the forward at the top of this list with 12.87% of the votes.
This confirms the rumor that Zegras is not necessarily well-liked by other players. He even made it back into the category of players others most want to "hit in the face."
He is confident, stands out with his "fanciness," and evidently, it bothers people.
Who better than the players to respond to this survey? They are at the heart of the game and thus know their opponents and teammates the best. The answer to this question is therefore most truthful.
Knowing this, one has to wonder if Kent Hughes should really pay a high price for a player who is considered, by his peers, one of the most overrated in the league?
The player, who has not played since January 9th due to a left ankle injury, has scored 4 goals and 3 assists for a total of 7 points in 20 games this season. The 9th overall pick of the 2019 draft is in his first campaign of a 3-season contract valued at $17.25 million ($5.75 million per year).
