TSN journalist, Darren Dreger, has just revealed new and interesting information following the trade between the Canadiens and the Predators. Let's not forget that on Wednesday night, Kent Hughes acquired defenseman Alexandre Carrier in exchange for the young Justin Barron.

According to insider Dreger, this trade is clearly setting up another one.

He revisited this transaction in the last few minutes and disclosed two reasons why Kent Hughes made this deal.

First, he states that Carrier's contract was advantageous, especially in helping the team transition smoothly while awaiting the development of young players like David Reinbacher and Logan Mailloux.

But that's not all. (and here's where it gets very interesting)

A trade setting up another, or even two more

«Secondly, he believes that the Canadiens' GM isn't done trading, and Carrier's arrival will give him more options, such as trading veterans Mike Matheson and/or David Savard at the trade deadline to get a significant return in terms of prospects and draft picks for their services.»

This will definitely be something to watch closely, but indeed, the acquisition of Carrier could truly set the stage for a trade involving David Savard, Mike Matheson, or even both.

This looks promising!

It's definitely worth following, and don't be surprised if one of these two defensemen (Matheson or Savard) gets traded in the coming weeks.

If it were your decision, what would you do?
