After a few weeks of calm, the name of Jake Allen is once again being seriously mentioned in trade rumors.

Why hasn't he been traded yet? When will it happen?

The renowned Elliotte Friedman has just answered this question via Sportsnet, and it turns out the answer is very simple.

Jake Allen will be traded by the Montreal Canadiens as soon as a team is willing to pay the price set by General Manager Kent Hughes.

He's not going to give him away.

Kent Hughes has just informed other teams of the price to pay to acquire Jake Allen

Here's what Friedman just mentioned.

"Montreal's General Manager, Kent Hughes, stated mid-way that he might keep his three goalies for the entire season.

Hughes has set a price (considered to be a draft pick), but, like Gibson, it varies depending on salary retention. (Jake Allen has one more year at $3.85M after this season.)"

That's it. It's not more complicated than that.

So, it's understood that Kent Hughes is asking for a draft pick in exchange for Jake Allen, and the more salary he has to retain, the higher the pick he is asking for in return.

As Hughes patiently waits for a team struggling in goal to pay the set price, he waits patiently.
