The day after their defeat against the Montreal Canadiens, news has emerged that the Leafs have placed a player on the trade market.

First, Toronto is reportedly open to trading their young defenseman Timothy Liljegren.

We're talking about the 17th overall pick of the Maple Leafs in the 2017 draft, a 25-year-old right-handed defenseman who stands 6 feet 1 inch tall.

Last season, Liljegren put up a solid 23 points in 55 games with the Leafs, and in his NHL career, he has accumulated 65 points in 196 games.

Timothy Liljegren no longer seems to be in the Toronto Maple Leafs' plans

The young defenseman recently signed a new two-year contract with the Leafs, earning him three million dollars annually, but he seems to have fallen down their depth chart.

In fact, he wasn't dressed for last night's season opener against the Montreal Canadiens. (A similar situation occurred against the Boston Bruins during the most recent NHL playoffs.)

«As reported by Elliotte Friedman, it appears Toronto is working hard to find a trade for Timothy Liljegren. He's at the bottom of Toronto's lineup, a situation that pleases no one.»

Chris Tanev, Oliver Okman-Larsson, and Jani Hakanpaa have been added to the Leafs' defensive roster, and they appear to have surpassed Liljegren.

Lastly, although he eventually signed a new contract with the Leafs, Nick Robertson remains available on the trade market, at the right price.
