Martin Necas breaks silence on trade rumors to Montreal for the first time
Over the past few months, numerous rumors have circulated involving Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas.
It's worth noting that his father had almost publicly demanded a trade, and everything pointed to it being 100% over for Necas in Carolina.
It wasn't pretty between the two sides.
However, for some time now, and since the signing of his new two-year contract with the Hurricanes, things have calmed down.
Does Martin Necas still want to be traded? Is he still on the trade market? Did he sign just to make it easier to be traded? We finally have the answers.
Elliotte Friedman reports a clear statement from Martin Necas
The rumors in Montreal can stop.
In an interview with a Sportsnet journalist, Martin Necas indeed mentioned that everything is settled with the Hurricanes.
It's quite a turnaround, but good for them!
«Necas was very interesting when talking about his summer. There was a time when no one thought he would return to the Hurricanes.»
«I wasn't sure,» he admitted.
«We talked a lot with Carolina. It was 50/50. I didn't have the best season, I wasn't happy. But we turned the page, we found a way to stay for two more years...
I feel like Carolina is my home. I was drafted there, I've played there for five seasons, and in the end, I'm happy to be back and to be able to prove to people there that I'm better than last season. I'm excited, I'm pumped.»
- Martin Necas, via Elliotte Friedman's article So, he breaks the silence for the first time since his barely concealed trade request, and this time, he confirms that he will be back in Carolina.
His name can be taken off the trade market.
Elliotte Friedman adds that there was real doubt as to whether Necas and coach Rod BrindAmour would be able to find common ground, as they have very different philosophies.
Has Necas «reconciled» with his head coach?
«I think we will, and we have to. It's important for us; I have to give him something so he can give me (more playing time).»
- Martin Necas
It seems that, for now, everything is settled between Necas and the Hurricanes.
At 25 years old, Martin Necas is a forward who has accumulated 243 points in 362 career NHL games, including 53 points in 77 games last season (24 goals).
He added 9 points in 11 games during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
