We have a trade to announce in the NHL. It truly seemed like only a matter of time, as we reported earlier today, but now it's confirmed.

The young forward Kaapo Kakko has just been traded!

A significant transaction between the New York Rangers and the Seattle Kraken

See the details right here:

The Rangers have just confirmed the transaction:

«The Rangers have acquired defenseman Will Borgen, a third-round pick in 2025, and a sixth-round pick in 2025 in exchange for Kaapo Kakko.»
-New York Rangers

This marks an abrupt end to Kakko's time in the Big Apple. He was selected 2nd overall by the Rangers in 2019, one spot ahead of a certain Kirby Dach.

Kakko, only 23 years old, is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound forward.

The situation had escalated for him in recent hours, especially after being scratched from the lineup and sent to the stands.. A decision he harshly criticized.

Kakko has accumulated 131 points in 330 career games in the NHL, including 61 goals. This season, he recorded 14 points in 30 games with the Rangers.

On the other hand, Will Borgen is a 27-year-old, 6-foot-3, 204-pound right-handed defenseman who was drafted in the fourth round in 2015 by the Buffalo Sabres.

He has 55 points in 247 career NHL games and played 33 games this season for the Seattle Kraken.

The well-known Chris Johnston has just revealed that Borgen has been a target for the Rangers on the trade market for quite some time, and now they have finally managed to acquire him.

It came at the cost of Kaapo Kakko.

More details to follow.
