As the NHL trade deadline approaches relatively quickly, and while Jake Allen and David Savard are especially the two names that are attracting attention, here's another one.
A trade between the Canadiens and the Devils involving Josh Anderson?
A passage from an article by The Athletic has just resurfaced, in which they confirm that the rumor involving Anderson at the same time last year was absolutely true.
The Devils showed serious interest in Josh Anderson, so will they try again this year?
"I know that the New Jersey Devils showed interest in (Anderson) last season via trade, and I don't know if that has changed with the acquisition of Timo Meier, but they can serve as an example of how a trade of Anderson with a contender could work.
The Devils are slowly giving more and more responsibility to Alexander Holtz the 7th overall pick in the 2020 draft (1st round) but unless he makes a significant leap forward, the Devils might come to the conclusion that he doesn't quite fit their window. [...]
It may not be Holtz, but it would probably take someone like him to convince the Canadiens to trade Anderson because I don't think he is seen as someone they absolutely have to trade."
- Via The Athletic So it's confirmed. The Devils showed interest in Anderson at the last deadline, so it will be interesting to see if discussions can resume soon.
It's often been seen in the past, notably with the Matt Duchene trade, that a negotiated trade only gets settled the following season (especially now that the Devils have some flexibility with the major injury suffered by Dougie Hamilton - who is on the LTIR).
Keep this in mind!
Holtz, 22 years old, has accumulated 23 points (12 goals) in nearly 50 games this season.
