While Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras obviously attract attention at the Montreal Canadiens, other young forwards are interesting to Kent Hughes.

If Necas and Zegras are too expensive to acquire, here's another intriguing option.

Not only would Kaapo Kakko be available on the trade market at the Rangers, but in New York, they are practically talking about him as if a trade is certain in his case.

This is big for Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton, and the Tricolore, because it gives them a new option.

A trade between the Canadiens and the Rangers involving Kaapo Kakko? A solid plan B for Kent Hughes

It really looks like it's confirmed and that it's over for Kakko there.

«Trading Kaapo Kakko this summer is an obvious move for the Rangers.»

- New York Post

It should be noted that he was benched by the Rangers during the 2024 NHL playoffs, which says a lot.

Kakko is another player drafted in 2019, just like Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook, so he is definitely an option to keep in mind.

In his case, the question seems to be «when» he will be traded, not «if» he will be traded this summer.

Kakko, 23 years old, 6 feet 2 inches and 205 pounds, is a second overall pick in 2019. He has 117 points in 300 career NHL games, after collecting 19 points in 61 games this season (13 goals).

He was drafted just before Kirby Dach.

In the 2024 playoffs, he scored two points in 15 games.

Could an offer built around Justin Barron and a second-round pick interest the New York Rangers?
