As we reported in the past few hours, the Blues recently received terrible news: they may have lost the services of their defenseman Torey Krug for the entire 2024-25 season.
They will therefore need to replace him via the trade market because the free agent market is depleted.
In this regard, the Montreal Canadiens have just come into the picture.
This is what the reputable Pierre McGuire has suggested.
On the latest episode of journalist Jimmy Murphy's podcast, Murphy and McGuire suggested that the St. Louis Blues are looking for a defenseman.
And if there's one NHL team currently ready to trade defensemen, it's the Montreal Canadiens.
With an already very old defensive brigade, the Blues would prioritize adding a young defenseman.
So we have here an ideal trade partner for Kent Hughes.
Interesting! He thus raises the possibility of a trade involving two players between Montreal and St. Louis.
It would be Jimmy Snuggerud for a young defenseman like Justin Barron, Jayden Struble, Jordan Harris, or another (depending on what the Blues want).
Snuggerud, 20 years old, was the 23rd overall pick by the St. Louis Blues in 2022 (1st round) and is a 6-foot-1, 186-pound forward.
Snuggerud amassed a very solid 50 points in 40 games in 2022-23 in the NCAA, plus 34 points in 39 games during the 2023-24 season.
He also collected 21 points in 13 games with the United States at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
