We have news regarding a proposed trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Los Angeles Kings involving a young offensive forward.
While Kent Hughes is still looking to acquire a young forward with top-6 potential, journalist Adam Proteau (THN / The Hockey News) has just revealed that the Canadiens are interested in the Kings' forward Arthur Kaliyev.
A trade between Montreal and Los Angeles involving young Arthur Kaliyev?
He is still a restricted free agent (RFA), so he does not have a valid contract for the upcoming season, and we imagine that the price to acquire him might be minimal.
«One team that would be interested [in Arthur Kaliyev] is the Montreal Canadiens. THN writer Adam Proteau suggested the Canadiens as a potential destination for Kaliyev, and it makes sense.
As Proteau says in his article, Montreal is still in the early stages of its rebuild and has the necessary flexibility to give Kaliyev a real chance in an important role.
Kaliyev can certainly fill a spot in the top-9 and maybe even in the top-6 if he impresses in training camp.»

As for the price to pay, he has agreed to put forward some options, including the following.
«Emil Heineman would be an interesting option for LA. He has already been traded twice in his young career, including once for Tyler Toffoli, but he seems to be a future depth forward in the NHL.
He is tall, skates well, and is constantly involved in the game, even if his offensive contribution is limited compared to someone like Kaliyev.»
- Via The Hockey News And you, would you trade Emil Heineman for Arthur Kaliyev?
It could be an interesting possibility to watch over the next few weeks.
I think Kaliyev has higher potential than Heineman, but the latter probably has a better floor. It really depends on what Kent Hughes prefers.
Arthur Kaliyev, 23 years old, was the 33rd overall pick in 2019 (the draft in which Kent Hughes made many picks) and is a 6-foot-2 forward.
He has 71 points in 188 career NHL games, including 35 goals, and he amassed 31 points in 40 games in the AHL at the age of just 19.
Kaliyev also scored 44 goals in 57 games in the OHL (98 points) and 51 goals in 67 games (102 points).
The offensive potential is definitely present!
While everyone is looking for a home run with the likes of Patrik Laine, Martin Necas, and Trevor Zegras, a more subtle trade for Arthur Kaliyev would make sense.
As for Emil Heineman, he has 38 points in 59 games in the AHL with the Laval Rocket. (0 points in 4 NHL games)
