Alex Galchenyuk has just been sentenced to prison
In the last few minutes, journalist Katie Strang revealed that former Montreal Canadiens player Alex Galchenyuk appeared before a judge and received a prison sentence.
We're talking about a 30-day sentence.
Recall that Galchenyuk was arrested a few weeks ago in Arizona, just days after signing a new contract with the Coyotes, while heavily intoxicated and making terrible threats towards a police officer.
He had also attempted to escape.
See the details:
"Update: According to official documents, five of the charges against Alex Galchenyuk have been dropped; he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of threats."
"According to these documents, Galchenyuk has been sentenced to 30 days in prison, with one day already served, and 27 days suspended after completing an alcohol recovery program and 12 months of abstinence from consuming/possessing alcohol."
"Last month, Galchenyuk publicly apologized and announced that he was enrolling in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program."
So, we are indeed talking about a 30-day prison sentence here, which he will be able to serve following his assistance program.
He has also received a 12-month prohibition from consuming or possessing drugs or alcohol.
