We witnessed a magical evening at the Bell Centre on Thursday night, despite the Montreal Canadiens' loss. Marc-André Fleury, playing his final career game in Montreal, capped it off with nothing less than a shutout.
At the end of the game, special moments unfolded one after another.
It's not every day you see something like this, and it's certainly not every day you see the opposing goaltender receive such applause after defeating the Habs.
It was simply magical.
An Emotional Moment for Marc Denis of RDS with Marc-André Fleury
As expertly pointed out by the excellent journalist Eric Engels of Sportsnet, the scene at the end of the game was an emotional one for the outstanding Marc Denis.
Marc Denis was emotional watching this scene unfold at the Bell Centre, even though he expected it to happen this way.
"It's the turning of the page," he said.
He called Marc-Andre Fleury the last of a great generation of Quebec goalies, and then said to me:
«It's achievements and championships that define greatness, but it's attitude and approach as a teammate that transcends the sport.» We won't soon forget this night of January 30, 2025, at the Bell Centre.
Let's recall that Fleury and the Minnesota Wild won by a score of 4-0 against the Montreal Canadiens, with the Quebec-born goaltender stopping all 19 shots directed at him to secure the shutout.
All of this speaks volumes about the legend, but more importantly, about the human being that is Marc-André Fleury.
Good luck for the rest of the season Flower!
