We see this a lot in the hockey world, and especially in the NHL, but what exactly are "future considerations"?
As was the case with goalie Michael McNiven, we have seen the Montreal Canadiens' GM trade a player for these famous "future considerations".
There is also the goalie Ben Bishop who was recently traded from the Stars to the Sabres for these same future considerations.
For those wondering what this means, the excellent Sean Shapiro (The Athletic) posted this:
Future Considerations
was described to me by one general manager as a promise to pay for the next round at the bar, or if not, to pay the green fees for the other general manager in the trade, at the next round of golf. - Sean Shapiro
This is hilarious! It gives a better idea of the value placed, by GMs, on this type of return.
