Why him? Simply because he is the one who has (by far) the best value on the trade market, among the CH players who will be free agents this summer.
Monahan, 28 years old, will be an uncompensated free agent after the season, and we don't know what the organization's plan is for him, especially since the Habs still have a surplus of forwards.
With his good start to the season, Kent Hughes could be tempted to trade him to a team looking for an impact forward, and according to a well-connected informant, Monahan's name is currently at the center of some rumors.
According to none other than the very reliable Pierre LeBrun, the Colorado Avalanche are looking for a second line center, and Monahan is among the players that Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland may be interested in.
Monahan would be of great interest to the Avalanche
However, the Canadiens' forward is not the only potential target for the Avalanche, as LeBrun also mentioned the names of Jonathan Toews and Ryan O'Reilly as options for the defending Stanley Cup champions.
Another trade between the CH and Avalanche?
So Monahan could become the next Artturi Lehkonen for Kent Hughes, but at what price? That is the question.
Could the Canadiens make another trade with the Avalanche, this time involving Sean Monahan?
Pierre LeBrun seems to believe so, and a price is even suggested by the excellent Marco D'Amico.
Would you do it?
To Colorado - Sean Monahan
To Montreal - 2023 first round pick
The Avalanche are desperately trying to get their hands on an established center right now.
Personally, we love Monahan, but this would definitely be an offer to consider. What do you think?
Monahan currently has 14 points in 21 games this season.
