Although Cole Caufield's season is over, the issue of his future contract continues to be in the news.

The latest rumours are that the young Habs winger is very close to reaching an agreement with the organization and now TVA Sports' game analyst Patrick Lalime has added his two cents.

During his appearance on the JiC show, the former NHL goaltender is convinced that number 22 will sign his new contract very soon, if it is not already done.

"I'm convinced."

Afterwards, Lalime went ahead and made a prediction about Caufield's next contract as he believes Caufield will sign a deal superior to the one Nick Suzuki signed.

Is his value going down because he's hurt? I don't think so. I expect him to sign a superior deal to Suzuki's, in my opinion. Someone who scores goals is more valuable than someone who collects points, from my perspective."

"Even though it's a small sample size, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a contract paying him between eight and nine million a season."

So that would be close to $70 million per season for an eight-season deal.

Recall that the Habs captain is playing the first year of his eight-year deal this season, with an annual salary of $7.875 million.

Jean-Charles Lajoie and Antoine Roussel, who were present on the set with Lalime, raised their eyebrows and it was quickly clear that they disagreed with the analyst.

What do you think?

Do you also think that, in the case of Caufield, we are talking about a contract that is settled and more lucrative than that of Nick Suzuki?
