In the last few seconds, journalist Patrick Lortie has just revealed a major piece of information that we had absolutely not seen coming.

According to one of his sources at the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton tried to acquire defenseman Jakob Chychrun this summer:

"I just received an interesting piece of information from a Canadiens executive that the team was in trade talks with the Coyotes regarding Chychrun over the summer. He would not confirm to me that a trade was close, but said "there were talks and the price was very high. We backed off."

Wow that would have been major. The price was too high, but if it goes down, the Montreal Canadiens will probably be back in this race.

The Coyotes will have no choice but to lower their demands, especially since Chychrun just publicly asked for a trade. It gets tougher.

Chychrun, 24 years old and drafted 16th overall in 2016, has amassed a very solid 18 goals and 41 points, in just 56 games in 2021, a pace of 60 points per 82 games. (and 21 points in 47 points last season)

Could he be a good acquisition for Montreal, in your opinion?

A solid young defenseman already developed, that fits perfectly with the needs of the Tricolore. He is a true number one defenseman.

File to watch, but it's really interesting to learn that the Montreal Canadiens are interested, and seriously inquired this summer.
