34-year-old defenseman Alec Martinez will not be testing the free agent market as he has just reached an agreement with the Vegas Golden Knights. Martinez, an important piece of the puzzle, signed a three-year deal that will pay him an average of $5.25 million annually.
In his first full season with the Knights, having arrived in Vegas on February 19, 2020 (8 points in 10 games), Martinez established himself as a mainstay on the blue line, forming one of the best pairs in the league with Alex Pietrangelo. In the end, Martinez collected a total of 32 points, including nine goals, in 53 regular games. In the playoffs, he collected six points in 19 games.
Martinez is a former 4th round pick, when the Los Angeles Kings drafted him at the 95th rank in the 2007 auction. With them, he put up 198 points in 597 regular games. He also participated in 64 playoff games and lifted two Stanley Cup, in 2012 and 2014.
