According to Georges Laraque, Phillip Danault has signed an verbal agreement with the Vegas Golden Knights. Basically, the two sides, Vegas and Danault, would have come to an agreement in secret and would announce the signature tomorrow, as soon as the free agent market opens.
This is a signature that would make a lot of sense, considering the Golden Knights are sorely lacking in depth at center. Plus, Kelly McCrimmon just traded Marc-Andre Fleury to the Chicago Blackhawks, which freed up about $7 million on the Knights' payroll.
Yes, they have acquired Nolan Patrick and Brett Howden recently, but both are very young, so there's still the lack of experience to play consistently in a top-6. The Golden Knights are built to go all the way, but with the potential addition of a young veteran like Danault, it would solidify their center line, making them much more competitive.
Could we see a Phillip Danault and Max Pacioretty duo like we used to see in Montreal? Add Mark Stone to the mix and the Golden Knights could have one of the most threatening line in the NHL in all three zones.
