Joel Armia has just signed a four-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens, he was an unrestricted free agent. The 28-year-old Finn will earn an average salary of $3.4 million, which is an increase of $800,000 annually. However, Armia seemed to have made up his mind following the Canadiens' elimination from the last Stanley Cup final to test the free agent market.
We know that Marc Bergevin and Dominique Ducharme really appreciate Joel Armia, despite his inconsistency. When he's on his game, he's physically dominant and in possession of the puck, he excels. The big forward also has a pair of quick hands and a keen concern for the defensive game. He is somehow cut out to wear the Red-White-Blue colors.
Last spring he was one of the best players on the roster, thanks to the chemistry that he developed with Eric Staal and Corey Perry. He finished the playoffs with eight points, including five goals, in 21 games. In the regular season, he picked up 14 points in 41 games after suffering a major concussion from Tyler Myers' vicious hit earlier in the season.
In his NFL career Armia has a record of 62 goals, 63 assists and 125 points in 336 games. I would like to remind you that he was the 16th overall pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2011 auction.
