Earlier in the day, we reported the lineup chosen by head coach Martin St-Louis for tonight's game. Details at the bottom of the article.
Many have noticed that Quebec forward Jonathan Drouin will be left out of the lineup, as he was on the "fifth line" during the team's morning practice.
Then, Martin St-Louis said that his goal is to have his lineup closer to the one he will have for the first game of the season.
What does this mean for Jonathan Drouin?
According to former scout Grant McCagg, it means great news for Drouin.
While many were suggesting that he was a possible candidate to be surprisingly cut, and placed on waivers, see what McCagg mentioned:
"Drouin not playing today is an indication that he has a spot in the lineup, not the other way around. I think Dadonov, who is on the fourth line, would be the player who needs to prove things today.
I'm not saying Drouin has earned it, but he's not in danger (of losing his spot). Otherwise, he'd be playing.
I predict that Drouin will be Marty's project, and Slaf will be Vinny's. Unlike many Canadiens fans, I expect Marty to be patient with Jo over the next few months. If he doesn't meet expectations by February, he's gone." - Grant McCagg
Interesting. So according to the former scout, who knows how it works internally, Drouin would already have his job secured for the first game of the regular season. The decision would already be made in his case.
As for Dadonov, he would still have things to prove.
It's going to be intriguing to watch, and in any case, the time of the big decisions is approaching for the Habs' bosses and we'll have answers to all our questions very soon. What would you do if this was your decision?
