Zdeno Chara is now 44 years old, but he's still not ready to hang up his old skates. Mr. Chara had only one thing on his mind since the end of the last schedule, to play one last season in the NHL. He has just made his wish come true, according to an information from former goaltender Kevin Weekes. Chara signed a one-year deal with the New York Islanders, the team that drafted him 56th overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
Lou Lamoriello wants to win before he retires. He has built a strong team, with a top-notch coach, probably the best in his profession. He has added a lot of leadership as well, including the recent addition of one of the league's top leaders, Zdeno Chara.
The 6-foot-9 giant defenseman is not the same as he once was, but his "aura" and leadership will certainly serve the Islanders well as a team. We're talking about a player who has 1608 regular games (666 points), 200 playoff games and a Stanley Cup behind his tie.
So, Chara returns home after seasons with the Senators, Bruins and Capitals, a perfect scenario to conclude his glorious career.
