With a gold medal in his pocket from the last World Junior Championship with Team Canada, Canadian prospect Owen Beck has only one goal in mind for the upcoming season. To get a spot with the big club.
That's what he told TVA Sports reporter Nicolas Cloutier during a meeting between the two men on Tuesday in the press room at the Bell Centre.
We love it! It's a big statement, but it says a lot about his character.
"That's absolutely my goal, next season. With the way things went in camp, landing a position with the big club will definitely be in my plans, next year."
A second-round pick 33rd overall in the last draft, Beck made many eyes glaze over during the team's training camp last September, so much so that Habs management signed him to his NHL entry-level contract before returning him to his junior team.
Beck is having a great season in the Ontario Junior League and was just traded from the Mississauga Steelheads to the Peterborough Petes. Although he has only recorded one point in three games with his new team, he is still getting used to his new environment and is quite confident about the future.
I'm going through an adjustment period right now. Linemate Brennan Othmann also recently arrived in Peterborough. Avery Hayes, my other winger, has only played one more game than me with the Petes."
"We have a little more room to be creative in Peterborough. It would be fun, it's something I'm going to try to incorporate into my game and it will come more naturally as I grow with talented players." With his new teammate, Othmann, with whom he won gold in Halifax, he could have a simply spectacular finish to the season and it's a safe bet that some Habs fans will start following the OHL, in the coming weeks.
