This summer, and more precisely during the 2022 National Hockey League draft, as you know, Kent Hughes concluded a major trade with the Chicago Blackhawks (via the New York Islanders)

To the Islanders:
Alexander Romanov
Pick #98

To Montreal:
Pick #13

--------------

In Montreal:
Kirby Dach (C)

To Chicago:
Pick #13
Pick #66

It seemed like a risky move to trade a young up-and-coming defenseman like Romanov, but you have to admit that so far, this trade is a great move for Montreal.

Romanov delivered solid checking with the Islanders, but the offensive production hasn't been so great, as he has 3 points in 12 games with his new team.

On the other hand, Kirby Dach already has 10 points in 12 games with the Tricolore, and he is only 21 years old! You read that right, 10 points in 12 games since the beginning of the season. A rate of 70 points per 82 games.

Let's also remember that Dach is a recent third overall pick, so the potential is huge. We are possibly witnessing the beginning of something even more impressive in Dach's case, and that really promises.

We love Romanov, but this could be an incredible trade for the Habs! Do you think Kirby Dach can become an 82-85 point player in the National Hockey League?

Do you think the Canadiens have acquired a future star player?

Finally, with the discovery of Arber Xhekaj and the signing of Jordan Harris, the loss of Romanov seems to have been filled internally, which is also important (Romanov is left-handed)

Solid, Kent Hughes!
