With all the trade rumors involving defenders Ben Chiarot and Jeff Petry, we forget too easily that another d-man of the Canadians will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, Brett Kulak.
Clearly, Kulak doesn't have the same value as Petry or Chiarot, but the defenseman is still having a respectable season with 10 points in 43 games.
If a trade involving Ben Chiarot could earn the Canadiens a first-round pick, what return would Kent Hughes be able to get for Brett Kulak?
Veteran journalist Pat Hickey of The Montreal Gazette believes the best Kent Hughes could get for Kulak is a third-round pick.
Which still seems pretty reasonable as a return, and he could prove to be a great addition to the blue line for a team hoping to make it through the playoffs.
However, not all pundits believe Kent Hughes should trade Kulak.
During Tony Marinaro's Sick Podcast, Stu Cowan was a little unsure about the Habs' plans for the defender.
«The Canadiens need to make sure they have enough defensemen to finish the season! Maybe the team wants to sign him this summer. But still, going by Kent Hughes' comment, he seems to want as many assets as possible to rebuild the team so if he gets a good offer, I imagine he'll take it." -Stu Cowan
Do you believe Brett Kulak will be traded at the trade deadline?
We will have the answer by March 21.
