During the NHL Expansion Draft last July, Ron Francis stopped on Cale Fleury once he got to the Montreal Canadiens. The Kraken's owners had given the GM the right to select Carey Price, who was not protected by Marc Bergevin because of his (serious) health condition. Jonathan Drouin was also available, but his future was unclear at the time.

That being said, Francis turned to Cale Fleury to reunite the two Fleury brothers (Haydn was also selected by the Kraken). Francis' plan is long term and there was no way he was going to get on board with a deal as monstrous as the one held by the Canadiens' defenseman... who is still on the sidelines today.

In short, all this hullabaloo to indicate that Cale Fleury was unable to carve out a position with the Seattle Kraken, so in order to head to the AHL, he must go through the waivers. He could also be claimed, as he certainly has some potential.

This former 3rd round pick in 2017 played 41 games in the NHL, all with the Habs. Last year with the Laval Rocket, he had six assists in 22 games.
