McCagg believes that "Carbo" would be the ideal candidate to come behind the bench for the remainder of the schedule, which is just over 50 games. Is this a bad joke? A guy who is not known as a great communicator and is certainly not an "X" and "O" fan. Really?
Here are McCagg's exact words :
"It would be a step backwards if Guy Carbonneau was called upon to finish the season, but I don't see him being any worse than Ducharme with the youngsters and it probably wouldn't take a three-year contract to convince him to take the interim job. Carbonneau has brought a lot of youth into the Montreal lineup in his (almost) three years as head coach, including Jaroslav Halak, Carey Price, Max Pacioretty, Ryan O'Byrne, Kyle Chipchura, Andrei Kostitsyn, Guillaume Latendresse, Matt D'Agostini, Max Lapierre and Sergei Kostitsyn." - Grant McCagg
That's all well and good, but like Patrick Roy, if "Carbo" didn't return to the National Hockey League following his firing, there's most likely a reason. What would he do more than Ducharme with the soldiers in place? NOTHING!
He is a former Montreal Canadien, he was an excellent captain and a warrior, he won two Stanley Cups with this team. On the other hand, during his stay as head coach, he did a decent job.
I mean, why bring his name out of left field like that? Yes, right... to get people talking, then it works to your heart's content.
