It's been a while since we've had any concrete news about goaltender Carey Price, but let's remember that according to Shaun Starr, the Montreal Canadiens' number one goaltender should normally be able to start the next season.
WAITE SPEAKS OUT
To add to that, former CH goalie coach Stephane Waite, who still talks to Carey regularly, said (on TSN 690) that Price is doing very well and his rehab is going in the right direction.
"[...] he should be back in time for the start of the season and he still has a lot of good hockey left to play."
- Stephane Waite
We love it!
As for the future of number 31 in Montreal, Waite made an interesting point. According to Carey Price's former coach, the goalie's most cherished goal and desire is really to win a Stanley Cup!
"I don't want to speak for Carey, but the one thing he wants to do for the rest of his career is win that cup. We've had a lot of discussions in the past and the only thing he wants is to win the Cup."
- Stephane Waite
Quick as that, you'd think he'd be happy to leave Montreal, to join a team like the Colorado Avalanche, but not so fast.
Waite also points out that Carey wants most of all "to win the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens, because he is very attached to the city, the tradition and the history of the team."
For now, it still seems realistic, because the rebuild seems to be going really well and going fast, but if Carey sees that he's going to run out of time to win a championship in Montreal, we shouldn't be surprised if he takes his chances elsewhere.
Price, 34, is signed (at $10.5 million a year) through 2026.
Do you think he still has a realistic chance of winning a Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens? If he is indeed back to 100%, would you trade him?
