But the NHL refused the trade saying it was bad for the league's image in general.
But will this aborted deal between the two teams put an end to negotiations for another possible personnel move? Not at all.
As reported by my colleague Christian Matte of Marker.com, tipster Chris Johnston said on his podcast, The Chris Johnston Show, that there have indeed been discussions between Kent Hughes and his Coyotes counterpart Bill Armstrong, but that those discussions could lead to something much bigger.
Johnston even suggests that talks could resume just before the draft. As we know, both the Habs and Coyotes are likely to draft among the top picks and by then, both teams could have a surprise in store just in time for the NHL draft in Montreal next summer.
