Last Tuesday, as part of the game between the Canadiens and the Boston Bruins, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman met with the media to discuss several topics.

Among other things, he talked about Logan Mailloux, the All-Star Game weekend, but also about the possibility of an outdoor game in Montreal.

Unfortunately, as David St-Jean of Marqueur.com reports, the NHL's number one player had some bad news for hockey fans who dream of a winter classic on Montreal soil.

"You don't have the infrastructure, are you going to take the roof off the Olympic Stadium? If so, we'll talk about it. But this city is simply not well enough equipped for this type of event."

Let's just say that it deserves to be clear!

It would be quite surprising if the roof of the Olympic Stadium was removed for just one event.

The only other stadium where a winter classic could be held would be McGill University's Percival Molson Stadium, used by the CFL Alouettes and the Redbirds in college soccer. However, the capacity of this stadium is approximately 25,000 spectators, whereas the NHL generally uses larger facilities for such events.

Unless the Montreal Expos return to Major League Baseball and a new stadium is built that can accommodate a significant number of spectators that would meet the NHL's requirements.

But just like the return of the Nordiques to Quebec City, the Expos' return does not seem to be in Major League Baseball's plans either.

Too bad.
