After selecting Slovakian Juraj Slafkovsky with the very first pick of the draft, the Canadiens fans in attendance had not seen anything yet and Hughes surprised everyone by trading defenseman Alexander Romanov to the New York Islanders and acquiring forward Kirby Dach from the Chicago Blackhawks.
As reported by my colleague Alexandre Desrosiers of Rumorsandtransaction.com, the Habs general manager met with the media after the first round and it appears his shopping trip isn't over.
When TVA Sports reporter Nicolas Cloutier asked about forward Josh Anderson, Hughes made a rather interesting statement.
Still a lot of work for Hughes and Gorton!
As we know, the Habs' forward would be on the market according to many experts and his value could be quite high if a team wants to acquire him.
But with the draft now over and Anderson still a member of the Habs, one must now wonder if Kent Hughes' plan was to offer his power forward to move up in the first round. Rumors have it that Anderson was offered to the Sens for the seventh overall pick.
In the end, it was defenseman Alexander Romanov who was used as bait to acquire the thirteenth overall pick, which was used to bring Kirby Dach to Montreal.
What's next for a potential deal involving Josh Anderson?
The fact that Kent Hughes is getting a lot of calls regarding Anderson is good news in itself since he now has the big end of the stick and as we know, Anderson will only be traded if the offer is exceptional. If it is not the case, the chances of seeing the number 17 start the next season in Montreal are excellent.
