Although the Winnipeg Jets forward finally agreed to terms on a one-year contract last July, it is very likely that he will take advantage of his status as an uncompensated free agent in the summer of 2024.
But in the meantime, as Marc-Olivier Cook of Danslescoulisses.com reports, Dubois is on track for the best season of his career in 2022-2023. He has already scored 20 points, including 10 goals in 21 games, and some Canadiens fans already see him donning the team's uniform in two years.
In an interview with Winnipeg's Winnipeg Sun, the Quebec forward praised his teammates so far this season.
The Jets currently sit in second place in the Central Division and even allowed themselves to defeat the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche 5-0 on Tuesday night.
With such a strong start to the season, Dubois, who will have to renegotiate his contract at the end of the season, could very well cash in and increase his value on the trade market. But as we know, Dubois has shown interest in coming to Montreal via the free agent market and at this point, even if he signs a new one-season contract next summer, he could very well sign a contract with his childhood team in the summer of 2024.
However, we don't know where the Habs will be and also the price that Dubois' clan could ask for, as they will certainly want to get a long term deal but in the meantime, all hockey fans in Quebec are very happy that a local player is performing at a high level in the NHL.
However, for Dubois to have such a strong start to the season is a big development for him and his value (as well as his wallet).
