The goaltender, who will be playing the last year of his contract this season, will see a lot of action in front of the cage, assisted by Samuel Montembeault.
Allen's future in Montreal is not guaranteed as he is in the final year of his contract and despite the rumor that Kevin Weeks recently released that Kent Hughes could offer his goaltender a contract extension, there have been numerous rumors in the last few weeks that Allen was indeed on the trade market this off-season.
However, as Marc-Olivier Cook of Danslescoulisses.com reports, it appears that Carey Price's health played a big part in Hughes' hesitation to trade his backup goalie.
And now a guy named Elliotte Friedman has added to that recently, and he mentioned on the 32 Thoughts podcast that the Habs organization is still undecided about whether to offer Jake Allen a contract extension.
His point was that the situation surrounding Price complicated things this summer when some teams called about Allen. Hughes wanted to make sure he had at least one experienced goalie this year and didn't know if Price would be able to play, which may have scuttled a deal for #34.
Now that Price has been placed on the long-term injured list, does this mean that Habs management is more open to offering Jake Allen a contract extension?
Maybe, but don't forget that he's in the last year of his contract and that his $2.875 million salary could be attractive to some teams. But on the other hand, the lack of relief in front of the net could force Kent Hughes to continue to trust the number 34 in the years to come.
