Jaromir Jagr is without a doubt one of the greatest hockey players in the history of the sport. He has such a passion for the game that he is still playing professionally today at the age of 50.
In addition to playing, the former NHL star also owns a team in the Czech Republic. His administrative role means that he is always on the lookout for new talent.
Prior to last year's NHL draft, a certain player ended up catching Jagr's eye, and after seeing him play, he had an immediate interest in trying to sign the player to play for his team, but it didn't take him long to realize that it wasn't going to happen. That player was the CH's last first round pick, Juraj Slafkovski.
Here's what the hockey legend had to say about the young man:
"I turned on the TV and Slafkovsky had a puck near the boards. He was very strong. He was a similar style player to me. I thought, I wanted him on my team (in the Czech first division). When I found out he was only 17 years old, I realized I had no chance to get him." - Jaromir Jagr
When a player like Jagr sees that kind of potential in you, it's usually a very good sign for his NHL career. The Canadiens eventually selected Slafkovsky 1st overall, which officially ended Jagr's dream of playing in the Czech League.
Imagine if Slafkovsky became a Jaromir Jagr 2.0! Wow!
