For some time now, a debate has been brewing between Shane Wright and Juraj Slafkovsky for the first pick in the upcoming draft. Fans and analysts are leaning both ways and the signs from the CH management are not helping the debate.
With the draft just a month away, the Montreal Canadiens wrapped up their prospect meetings this weekend at the NHL's Combine in Buffalo. In that regard, CH officials took Shane Wright and Logan Cooley to eat, while sticking to a normal interview for Juraj Slafkovsky. So we can conclude that the prospect was ignored for dinner. Slafkovsky was asked about it over the weekend, and he didn't seem to care at all.
See what he said, with a smirk:
"I didn't get the dinner, but the conversation we had, for me, was better than the dinner" - Juraj Slafkovsky
This show of confidence made the journalists present for the meeting with Slafkovsky laugh. He even found the whole thing rather funny...
Slafkovsky, a left-handed striker, spent last season in the Finnish Elite League at the age of 17. He scored five goals and added five assists for 10 points in 31 games. He had a strong performance playing for Slovakia at the Olympics, scoring seven goals in seven games.
It's because of his great performances that many, including Maxim Lapierre, hope to see Kent Hughes trade for the New Jersey Devils' 2nd overall pick. This way, the CH could get their hands on Wright and Slafkovsky!
