During the 32 Thoughts segment of Hockey Night in Canada this Saturday night, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Chicago Blackhawks could make some big changes this offseason.
Friedman said the Blackhawks are testing the market on all of their players, with the exception of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Seth Jones, who have no-movement clauses.
"One team to watch over the next few weeks will be Chicago. They have three players with no-movement clauses, Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Seth Jones, so don't count them out because they're not on the market. But other than that, the Blackhawks are testing the market value of anyone other teams want to ask about. They're willing to listen, they're willing to hear, as another general manager said, it's like Brandon Hagel, can you make them an offer that makes them want to seriously consider it?" - Elliotte Friedman With Kane, Toews and Jones off the market, there are two names that could give the Blackhawks some pretty big returns. Those two players are Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach. Really surprising.
For a rebuilding team to see that they want to trade DeBrincat, Dach, Kubalik and Reichel, but want to keep Kane and Toews is pretty unexpected.
Recent rumors mentioned that Dach could very well leave the Windy City this summer. The addition of DeBrincat, however, is most surprising. DeBrincat has 78 points (41 goals and 37 assists) in 82 games this season with the Hawks.
Another name that will be interesting to watch is that of future RFA Philipp Kurashev, 22. In his second season with the Blackhawks, he has 21 points (six goals, 15 assists), 12 penalty minutes and a -16 rating.
To a lesser extent, there will likely be some interest in former third overall pick Dylan Strome and possibly Dominik Kubalik. Both players are expected to become RFAs next month.
With the 2022 draft just over a month away, the Blackhawks will more than likely be looking to add a first round pick after dealing theirs to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Seth Jones trade. That pick will have been beneficial to the Jackets, who will have ultimately collected their 6th overall pick of the upcoming draft.
