It seems inevitable that Kent Hughes will eventually have to try to trade one or two more (forwards)
ANOTHER TRADE COMING UP?
Considering the fact that the Montreal Canadiens have an awful lot of forwards on NHL contracts, Marco D'Amico (Montreal Hockey Now) believes that Kent Hughes could make another move.
According to him, Evgeny Dadonov could (already) be traded by the Habs and we couldn't agree more.
The 33-year-old Dadonov was acquired in the trade that sent Shea Weber's contract to Las Vegas.
Indeed, he just arrived in Montreal, but it is unfortunately obvious that he is not part of Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's long term plans.
He came to Montreal because the Vegas Golden Knights wanted to get rid of his contract, and Kent Hughes wanted to trade Weber's contract.
Dadonov is signed, at $5 million a year until next summer, and D'Amico really believes he could change his address by the start of next season. So do we.
It seems logical, especially if he starts the year in Montreal and has a good start to the season.
Hughes could then take the opportunity to trade him (at 50% of his salary), in exchange for a youngster, a defenseman or a good pick.
The one who scored 43 points last season could become interesting for a team struggling with injuries, or especially for a team that wants to be competitive and is looking for a good top-9 winger.
A file to follow, but don't be surprised if it happens, because it would be very surprising if the Montreal Canadiens' general manager uses his precious salary cap room next summer to sign Evgeny Dadonov.
And instead of losing him for nothing next summer, why not try to trade him now? Especially considering the surplus of forwards.
There are several clear signs that Kent Hughes is indeed already in the process of trading one of his most recent acquisitions, given the current circumstances.
Would you do it too?
