Appearing on BPM Sports for his traditional column, journalist Renaud Lavoie made a very clear statement regarding goaltender Samuel Montembeault, and it's hard not to agree with him.

"The way he played yesterday, Montembeault's signing seems to be a bargain." - Renaud Lavoie

It should be noted that the Canadiens agreed to the terms of a three-season contract extension (2024-2025 to 2026-2027) with goaltender Montembeault.

The deal is worth an average annual value of $3.15 million.

Montembeault, 27 years old, has an efficiency of 0.913 this season, an average of 2.66, and a record of 6-3-1.

When comparing his deal with similar contracts, it looks very good for Kent Hughes.

Filip Gustavsson earns $3.75 million per year. (0.891 efficiency)

Vitek Vanecek earns $3.4 million per year. (0.879 efficiency)

Karel Vejmelka earns $2.7 million per year. (0.892 efficiency)

Stuart Skinner earns $2.6 million per year. (0.881 efficiency)

And considering that the salary cap will soon rise significantly, and Montembeault is the one signed for the longest, it seems like a very good move for Montreal.

On BPM Sports, Renaud indeed mentions that, in his opinion, this contract already really looks like a bargain.

Samuel continues to improve his stats at 5 on 5. He has only conceded 12 even-strength goals, with a save rate of 0.950. The penalty kill hurts him, but at 5 on 5, he is really one of the best goalies in the league this season.
